Introduction to JLC Core Skills (31 July 2024)
Join our team of professional tutors for fast paced, highly interactive challenges to develop some key transferable skills of a lawyer, useful for debates and public speaking. We have a maximum of six students per tutor in the breakout rooms for plenty of individual feedback.
In the three hours you will cover:
Building arguments and putting points forward clearly and concisely.
Critical thinking and advocacy skills, including delivery of points.
Problem solving, questioning assumptions and thinking creatively.
Single Workshop Holiday Clubs
23 August: ‘Crime & Punishment’ a workshop covering debates, ethics and law around the theme of Crime & Punishment. Work in breakout rooms of no more than six students per tutor, for plenty of fast-paced debates to develop your ability to think on the spot and deliver your points clearly, with feedback from our panel of professional actors and lawyers.
30 August: ‘Debating Skills’ a workshop to develop confidence in a range of debating skills. Learn to speak under pressure, to think critically and structure points clearly, as you take part in our fast-paced challenges, in breakout rooms of no more than six students per tutor.
30 August: ‘Interview Skills’ a workshop – Join our team of professional tutors for practice and feedback on interview techniques, with a focus on the ability to think and respond under pressure.
JLC Bronze Silver and Gold Awards (for members only)
JLC Bronze Awards
You must have attended 15 JLC workshops before you can take the JLC Bronze Award. The Bronze Award demonstrates competence in presentation skills. It will involve giving an individual presentation in front of a small group of up to six students of mixed ages.
Candidates must prepare a three-minute presentation on a new law they would like to introduce following the required structure and format.
Silver Awards
You must have attended 30 JLC workshops before booking the JLC Silver Award, which tests critical thinking and mental agility as well as advocacy skills. You will be sent instructions to read 48 hours before the Award. Please ensure you go through these thoroughly.
Gold Awards
This represents the highest level of achievement. To book the JLC Gold Award you must have completed 45 JLC workshops and received an invitation with the JLC Assessment Criteria. You will then be expected to prepare your business pitch and submit this before the exam.
